What’s that rumble in the distance, you ask? No, it’s not a fleet of low-flying helicopters or a herd of petulant, stampeding elephants. Believe it or not, it’s almost that time of year once again – The time of year when classic bikes, modern bikes, low riders and trikes will flood the greater Black Hills area to soak up the majestic scenery, the motorcycles, and the music. Oh, and maybe the occasional party or two.
What began in the 1930’s as a small audience watching nine racers on a dirt track has now grown into a week-long celebration, commonly known as “America’s premier motorcycle event.” The festivities draw some of the biggest names in entertainment and music, and the array of outlandish wardrobe attire, or lack thereof, is enough to entertain for hours.
The rally is about more than parties and scandalous amounts of skin, though. It’s a time when old friends reunite to enjoy each other’s company and reminisce about the past year. It’s a time when new friends are made, sometimes being brought together from different corners of the globe.
