Trending – Live Video

The tech world moves at a blistering pace, one only has to look at the frenetic pace at which videos are uploaded to Youtube daily to attest to this fact. Trying to stand out among the thousands of hours uploaded every day can be a daunting task. Trying to find that magical combination of entertainment, delivery, and the information is something you can try to plan for but never know if it will be successful. But there are things you can do to help your chances, and that’s where live video, or streaming comes in.

Most often videos are shot, edited (hopefully) and then posted online. While this has some very distinct advantages, don’t forget the old tried and true method of live. Broadcasting live goes way back, nearly a century, and was very commonplace up through the 1950’s for television. While today live broadcasts are reserved for newscasts, sports entertainment, award shows and the like, using live video can add that immediate and personal connection to your audience.

A live stream conveys immediacy with their viewers, lending a sense of excitement like anything can happen (which it can!). It also cuts on post-production as there is no editing of live content, what you see is what you get. Although the other side of the coin is that your presentation should require a bit more on the planning side to keep things running smoothly. A live stream can also be very beneficial to connecting with your audience via a live chat, which is a great way to get immediate feedback in the comments. It helps to have a second person monitoring the chat to make sure you don’t miss anything important.

As a final tidbit, users tend to spend three times longer watching a live video as opposed to pre-recorded, so chances are you’ll be able to hook your viewer for longer and have more time to get your message across.

Add live video into your video production strategy and see where it takes you! Happy videoing!
