Take Me Out To The Ball Game

There is nothing like sitting outside on a warm summer day in the stands of a baseball field while eating a hot dog, sipping a cold drink and rooting for your favorite team. My love for baseball began at a very young age. My dad was one of the Directors of the Stars of Tomorrow Baseball Tournament located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Our entire family participated in the tournament. In my young years, I would assist my mom delivering roast beef sandwiches to worked at dozens of baseball fields across town. As I grew older, I ran the pop machine at a field and eventually worked my way up to running a park. This was a huge responsibility dealing with coaches and players from hundreds of teams. When I moved to Rapid City in 1994, I coached a boys’ 12 and under baseball team. At first the dads were not fond of the idea of having their son coached by a woman. But over time, they warmed up, probably because the team had a successful season. Now, each summer my husband and I take a weekend baseball trip traveling to a city and stadium we have not previously visited. Baseball is love for many people, including me, and the roots of baseball’s history runs deep in our country. Put on your list for 2016 to take in a game, you will be glad you did.
