As a graphic designer for over 7 years, I spent the last 3 of those in a job that didn’t require a whole lot of designing. While I am thankful for the wealth of experience and knowledge I learned on the functioning side of a business, I knew to live a more fulfilled life, I needed to continue down a creative path. The serendipitous timing when the opportunity for a major career upgrade presented itself was my sign that I was meant for more. That opportunity was joining Midwest Marketing as a Designer!

Meeting the Crew

My first week was spent familiarizing myself with each of our clients and the work we do for them. Getting the time to research was helpful and it became evident that Midwest Marketing strives to serve each client with care and personalized service based on their unique needs. I was able to sit with each one of my new coworkers to learn about their position and what their day-to-day roles look like. I was grateful for this because it gave me insight on how I would be working with and supporting everyone else on the team. I even got to tag along to a client meeting where I witnessed discussions on current projects and ideas.

Diving Into Design Life

In my second week on the job, I attended several more client meetings which allowed me to introduce myself and get to know who I will be working with. Aside from meeting with clients, I attended staff meetings at the office where I saw just how collaborative the environment is in a brainstorm session. I also got to dip my toes into my role as a designer and begin working on smaller design projects in between learning more about each client.

Being a hands-on learner, I found the first two weeks of research, self-learning, and meeting clients face-to-face so beneficial to my success within the team. It prepared me for the various design jobs I will be taking on and understanding more about Midwest Marketing as a whole. It’s clear to me that this agency aims to not only output the best work for their clients, but also set up its employees to flourish in their specialties.

Looking Ahead

My co-workers have been so open and willing to jump in and help me learn the ropes, and even include me on after work events which has made the transition seamless and allowed me to get to know everyone better. I appreciate the encouragement I feel to continue to learn and expand my abilities as a designer. I am thrilled to be a part of this creative and close-knit group and can’t wait to see the growth that is sure to come!
